Certified Translations for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)
If you are submitting a document in a foreign language to USCIS, it must be accompanied by a certified English translation. This requirement is outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations, 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3):
“Any document containing foreign language submitted to USCIS shall be accompanied by a full English language translation…”
A “full” translation means every part of the document must be translated—including stamps, seals, signatures, and handwritten notes. The translation must also be certified and completed by a qualified translator.
USCIS Translation Requirements
Based on our experience, USCIS expects the translator’s certification to include:
- A statement confirming the translation is complete and accurate
- A declaration that the translator is competent to translate from the original language into English
- The translator’s full name, address, and signature
- The date of certification

Certified Translation Services
If you're submitting foreign-language documents for official use in the United States, you'll need a certified translation. In most cases, that includes a Certificate of Translation Accuracy: a formal declaration issued on the translation company’s letterhead confirming the translation is complete and true to the original. The certificate typically includes the translator’s signature, a stamp or seal, contact details, and their membership number from a recognized professional association.
